U.S. electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) company Archer Aviation has announced it will integrate SpaceX’s Starlink low-Earth orbit satellite internet system into its Midnight four-seat air taxi. This marks the first time a low-orbit satellite network has been directly applied to an eVTOL aircraft, representing a significant step forward for the low-altitude economy.

For a long time, communication has been one of the biggest challenges in low-altitude flight. Traditional ground base stations have limited coverage, especially in dense urban areas with tall buildings, while geostationary satellites suffer from high latency and insufficient bandwidth. Starlink’s low-Earth orbit constellation, with its global coverage, low latency, and high bandwidth, is seen as an ideal solution to these problems.

According to the partnership, Archer will install and test the Starlink system on its Midnight eVTOL. In the future, passengers will enjoy high-speed, low-latency internet connectivity during flight. The aircraft will also maintain more stable real-time data links with ground control systems, significantly improving flight safety and operational efficiency.

Archer founder and CEO Adam Goldstein said: “Reliable connectivity is one of the core features of the Midnight. Starlink’s technology makes it particularly well-suited for low-altitude flight scenarios. This collaboration will deliver a smoother connected experience for both passengers and pilots.”

Beyond passenger internet, the partnership also aims to develop dedicated network solutions for Archer’s future autonomous eVTOL operations, laying the groundwork for large-scale urban air mobility.

The low-altitude economy is growing rapidly, and communication infrastructure is considered its lifeline. Ground networks weaken significantly above 300 meters, while low-orbit satellites can provide more comprehensive and stable coverage. The collaboration between Archer and Starlink sets a new example for the integration of low-altitude economy and satellite internet.

Archer is currently accelerating the commercialization of its Midnight air taxi. This partnership with Starlink adds a strong advantage to its future network infrastructure.
