SoftBank Corp. is taking a bold leap into the future of connectivity with the launch of its Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) solutions, leveraging cutting-edge technologies from space and the stratosphere. The company announced today that it will roll out a suite of NTN services, including Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (GEO) satellite NarrowBand IoT (NB-IoT) connectivity through a new partnership with Skylo Technologies, Inc., Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communications via OneWeb Ltd., and High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) stratospheric platforms from its subsidiary, HAPSMobile Inc.
This powerful trio of NTN offerings is designed to deliver tailored connectivity solutions to a wide range of industries and users. Skylo’s GEO satellite NB-IoT services bring cost-effective IoT connectivity to sectors like fishing, mining, and shipping, making advanced technology accessible at a fraction of the cost of traditional satellite services. OneWeb’s LEO satellite platform provides high-speed, low-latency communications, empowering governments, businesses, and individuals worldwide. Meanwhile, HAPSMobile’s HAPS technology enables direct LTE and 5G connectivity, allowing users to connect via standard smartphones and devices, even in areas without traditional network infrastructure.
SoftBank’s vision is to drive digital transformation (DX) by bringing seamless, high-tech connectivity to analog industries and underserved regions. By combining these innovative NTN solutions, the company aims to revolutionize access to communication networks in Japan and beyond.
“Many industries worldwide still lack reliable network access, which hinders their ability to modernize,” said Hidebumi Kitahara, Vice President and Head of SoftBank’s Global Business Strategy Division. “Our NTN solutions, powered by Skylo, OneWeb, and HAPSMobile, will deliver transformative connectivity to bridge this gap and unlock new opportunities for digital innovation.”
Parth Trivedi, CEO and Co-founder of Skylo, emphasized the user-centric approach: “Customers want connectivity that’s simple and seamless. Our technology breaks down barriers, offering affordable, accessible solutions that rival traditional networks.”
OneWeb CEO Neil Masterson echoed this enthusiasm: “Partnering with SoftBank aligns with our mission to connect the world. Together, we’re building the infrastructure and innovations needed to deliver reliable telecom services in Japan and key global markets.”
With this forward-thinking strategy, SoftBank is poised to redefine global connectivity, paving the way for a more connected and digitally empowered future.
